Yale Law School is launching the Hurst Horizon Scholarship Program, making it the first law school in the U.S. to cover the full cost of tuition for students with great financial need.

Who’s eligible?

The Hurst Horizon Scholarship Program erases tuition for law students whose family income is below the federal poverty guidelines and with assets below $150,000. Students who are enrolled in the school at that time, including current and future students, will be eligible if they meet the criteria.

What’s covered?

The scholarship awards the entire cost of tuition and other fees. Tuition for Yale Law School’s 2021-22 academic year totaled $67,108.

When does it begin?

The scholarship is set to launch in the fall of 2022.

Our forecast: 🎉🎉🎉

This is just one step towards leveling the playing field and furthering equity in the field of law. It is likely that more law schools will follow suit, opening the door for future law students of lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
