Thousands of families trust Prepory
I started with Prepory the summer going into my sophomore year. As a first-generation college student and no older siblings who went through the college admissions process, I was clueless where to even start regarding college admission. From the start, Prepory immediately eased all concerns through helping me build my extracurriculars, create a high school schedule that best fit my desired majors, improve my writing skills, and become more confident in myself as a prospective college student. I started with my primary coach Tala my junior year of high school. Tala proved invaluable as a resource in the process of making my college list, brainstorming essay material, and application creation, but also as a source of reassurance. Tala became a mentor to me and I will carry all the lessons she taught me into college.
We had bad experiences with our older children, so we talked to many different college counselors to get it right this time. We heard about Prepory through a family friend and ultimately chose them because we felt they had total understanding of the admissions process and knew what to do and when to do it. Our son got into Stanford thanks to Prepory.
I know that without the guidance, support, and knowledge offered by Prepory, I wouldn’t have had the confidence or know-how to navigate the college admissions process and get to where I am now. Prepory changed my life.
My son and I interviewed about 15 different admission consulting companies before I decided on Prepory. I chose Prepory because they simply offered more hours at the lowest price of any of the reputable companies. We were given 2 committee reviews, where many different consultants read my son’s application, alongside around 30 hours of one-on-one time. Comparable companies really only offered 30 hours for the same price. I’m proud to say that the consulting worked. My son is now attending Brown, and, after seeing how many rounds of revision they went through, I can confidently say that he wouldn’t have gotten to the Ivy League without Prepory and his counselor, Peter.

Frequently asked questions from West Coast families
Washington residents receive in-state preference at the University of Washington, which is a public university with a mandate to serve the state, and a meaningful share of the admitted class is drawn from in-state applicants each year. That preference improves your odds relative to out-of-state applicants, but UW remains competitive for Washington students, particularly in high-demand programs like computer science and engineering where acceptance rates are significantly lower than the university's overall rate, and strong grades and a well-developed application still matter considerably.
Silicon Valley and the Bay Area produce one of the most competitive college applicant pools in the country, with many students coming from high-achieving public schools and well-resourced private schools where strong GPAs, high test scores, and extensive extracurricular involvement are common rather than exceptional. Colleges do not apply a geographic penalty, but the density of qualified applicants from the same area means the bar for differentiation is higher, and students from communities like Palo Alto, Cupertino, and San Jose often find that standing out requires a more specific and compelling personal narrative than their credentials alone can provide.
Stanford is a private university and does not give preference to California residents or applicants from any particular state, so living nearby does not improve your chances the way in-state status does at UC schools or UW. Stanford admits fewer than 4% of applicants from a global pool, and West Coast students compete directly against the same highly competitive international applicant pool as everyone else, which means proximity to campus has no bearing on admissions outcomes and the application needs to be as strong as it would need to be from anywhere in the world.
UC schools use a single shared application submitted through the UC system by the November 30 deadline, with admissions based heavily on GPA, course rigor, and Personal Insight Questions, and California residents benefit from in-state preference across all campuses. Private colleges in California like Stanford, Caltech, and USC use the Common App or Coalition App with their own deadlines, supplemental essays, and holistic review processes that weigh a wider range of factors including demonstrated interest, alumni interviews, and detailed extracurricular narratives, and they admit students from a national and international pool without any geographic preference for California residents.
Prepory serves students across California, Washington, and Oregon, including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Seattle, and Portland, as well as surrounding communities throughout each state. Because our program is hosted entirely online, we are able to work with any student on the West Coast regardless of where they are located.
