Comprehensive
college guidance
Engage in one-on-one advising sessions and receive tailored guidance to best support your academic and collegiate endeavors. While school counselors are qualified to guide students to success beyond high school, their large volume of students and pressing responsibilities limit their time. This makes having a personal college coach dedicated to supporting you through the entire admissions process a game-changer.
At Prepory, we focus on a student-centric approach to college admissions counseling that equips students with the resources, knowledge, and personalized guidance they need to craft a competitive application to top schools like Harvard University, Yale University, Amherst College, MIT, Caltech, Duke University, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University, and UCLA. Our students have also received acceptance letters to some of the best colleges and universities in the South such as Duke University, Vanderbilt University, Rice University, Emory University.
Our comprehensive college counseling program encompasses a wide range of critical topics for each high school grade level such as leadership development, crafting the personal statement, supplemental essays, navigating financial aid, securing impactful letters of recommendation, strategic high school course selection, and beyond.
Wall Street Journal reports that, in two decades, 84% more students from the North attended public schools in the South.
Our program is accessible to all South residents including those in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas, and its surrounding neighborhoods like Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte, Nashville, and Houston, and more.

Why your story matters in a
competitive region like the South
"Florida schools received 33% more applicants this year than ever before. That's not an outlier. We're seeing the same trend across Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee. Students from across the country are discovering what Southern schools have to offer, and that means local students are competing in a much more crowded field."

Frequently asked questions
College admissions in the South has grown significantly more competitive in recent years, driven by a surge in out-of-state applicants targeting flagship universities in Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee. Schools like the University of Florida, University of Georgia, and UT Austin now receive applications from students nationwide, raising acceptance thresholds and making strong academic profiles and differentiated applications more important than ever for in-state students.
The most selective colleges in the South include Rice University (acceptance rate around 8%), Vanderbilt University (around 7%), Wake Forest University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Emory University. Public flagships such as the University of Florida, University of Georgia, and UT Austin have also become increasingly selective, with competitive admits typically presenting GPAs above 3.9 and strong standardized test scores.
Many Southern universities do factor demonstrated interest into admissions decisions, including Vanderbilt, Tulane, and several smaller private colleges in the region. Flagship public universities like the University of Florida and UT Austin typically do not weight demonstrated interest as heavily, focusing instead on GPA, course rigor, and test scores. Students applying to private Southern institutions benefit from campus visits, attending information sessions, and engaging with admissions representatives.
Getting into the University of Florida or University of Georgia as an in-state student has become increasingly difficult as both schools attract growing numbers of out-of-state and international applicants. UF's overall acceptance rate has dropped below 30%, and UGA's is now around 37%, with competitive admits typically presenting unweighted GPAs above 3.9 and SAT scores above 1400. Both schools use holistic review, meaning essays, activities, and demonstrated academic rigor all play a meaningful role alongside GPA and test scores.
Honors programs at Southern universities offer strong students access to smaller class sizes, priority registration, research opportunities, and dedicated housing, often rivaling the experience of more selective private schools at a fraction of the cost. Programs like the University of South Carolina Honors College, the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at Ole Miss, and the University of Tennessee Honors Program are nationally recognized and can significantly enhance post-graduate outcomes for students who qualify.
Southern students benefit from building a college list that extends beyond the region, particularly if they are targeting highly selective schools or specific academic programs not well represented locally. Northeastern schools, Big Ten universities, and West Coast institutions actively recruit from the South, and students from Georgia, Florida, Texas, and Tennessee are well represented at Ivy League and top-20 universities. A geographically diverse college list gives students more leverage, more options, and a stronger safety net.
